At least 84 suspected gang members have been arrested and 194 motorcycles impounded following a series of intelligence-led police operations across Nairobi aimed at curbing rising insecurity.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said the suspects include members of motorcycle gangs and land-based criminal groups, with some found in possession of weapons.
He noted that a number of suspects were also intercepted while allegedly heading to Kikuyu, raising concerns about the organized use of goons to disrupt public events.
The crackdown comes amid growing cases of gang-related attacks on residents, increasing pressure on authorities to dismantle these networks and restore public safety.
Mohamud also warned protest organizers to strictly follow legal requirements, including issuing a 14-day notice before demonstrations.
He dismissed planned protests on April 21, stating that police had not received any official notification, and emphasized that compliance is necessary to prevent protests from being infiltrated by criminal elements.
